The Verandah Cafe and Boutique is situated in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital. It is a place where patients, their relatives and staff can go for refreshments or to browse in the Boutique. Volunteers from St. Cuthbert’s have ben staffing the cafe on Thursday afternoons for 45 years and money raised from the cafe and boutique goes directly to the wards to fund extra activities for the patients.
In 2019 the cafe and boutique were closed for five months because of damage caused by a fire in the corridor, and were open again for five months before closing down because of Covid-19 restrictions. Currently the future of both cafe and boutique is unsure since the majority of volunteers are from the vulnerable age group.
