Vestry Report July 2019

  • The Vestry training day in June did not take place.
  • The cleaner retired on 28th June and the Contract Cleaners start 3rd July. They are slightly more expensive but will clean the outside windows as part of their contract.
  • Philip Rossiter has been appointed as Organist on a full time contract.
  • We have received the accounts of Holy Trinity Church Wester Hailes and Martin is studying them. At present the consensus is not to commit to providing funding until they can show where long term funding is going to be sought.
  • A thank you letter from The Seafarers Mission has been received for the knitted items we have sent and this will be placed on the hall notice board. They hope we will continue to help.
  • In reply to the Investment Committee Consultation document Vestry wrote to Synod on 21/4/2019 expressing that as an interested party we would want the ethical restriction to remain in the Investment Criteria. At the General Synod the decision to remove the restriction was reversed.
  • Martin reported that due to an underspend on Property, lack of need to pay an expected salary stipend and an increase in hall rental there is expected to be a significant surplus at the Year end.
  • The Communication Group have decided to move our website to host it on our own domain through a hosting site. Katie Holmes will manage this and Susan Clark will continue to manage the daily activity.
  • Nicki informed us of a Canon that provides a policy for complaints against clergy e.g. for bullying. Otherwise a complaint to Vestry would be forwarded to the Church Safeguarding officer (Christine Nimmo) who could then forward it to the Provincial Safeguarding Officer.
  • Health and Safety: Vestry agreed that CCTV should be installed in the yard. Marie now has a peephole and locks the office door when working.
  • Todd and Taylor Architects have provided a first draft of ideas for reorganising space within the church buildings.
  • The Communications Group have set deadlines with respect to the AGM: Reports request 1st October with a 10th October deadline;
  • Reports booklet available to the congregation on the 10th November, with the AGM on 24th Any questions must be presented in writing before the meeting. Questions not in writing will be deferred until the following year so that a complete answer can be given.
  • Nicki thanked everyone for their support over Easter but Easter had highlighted the need for a rota of Readers and Ministrants etc. for days other than Sundays over busy festival periods.
  • A notice in The Communicant is asking churches to consider a pilgrimage in 2020/2021. Margaret is thinking if there is something that we could do.

The full minutes are available in the folder at the back of the Church.
