For the past 48 years Members of St Cuthbert’s have been volunteering on Thursday afternoons in the cafe and boutique in the Royal Edinburgh Hospital , serving patients, staff and visitors. Over the years the money raised has been given to the wards to benefit patients . Among the different items provided have been sports kit, craft materials, games, vouchers for breakfast in Morningside, emergency toiletries , Christmas presents, even tickets for the Festival Fringe, and many more.
Sadly this has come to an end, hastened by Covid-19. Both cafe and boutique have been closed for a year and, because of a shortage of volunteers , will close permanently at the end of March.
Many members of the congregation have volunteered over the years and we will all miss meeting and serving all who used the cafe and boutique. Perhaps another group will find ways of raising money for the wards in the future.
